Seventh in the series, and perhaps my favorite. It is an important reminder that vampires are evil--they may like you, and do nice things for you, and even fall a bit in love with you--but they are still un-dead monsters with no soul and no conscience. We get to spend some time with Molly's family, even though Molly has disappeared. We get to see a glimmer of hope for Ricky-bo, and life for Bruiser may be getting slightly better, or maybe just more dangerous. Lots of twists and turns, and a bit more Jane coming to grips with her past.
Others have said rude things about Evan, but he is a great father, and apparently he would go to any length to save his wife. Yes, he may have a touch of giant blood (size and temper suggest it) but i find him comforting and his magic saves lives and heals. So short story--vampires = evil, air witch = good.
In case you are not yet convinced to read this installment, let me say that buried deep in the story Jane confesses to her real age!

I like the series and enjoy badass and competent female protagonist but I do wish she weren't quite so macho. The problem is that to (possibly) even out the fact that she is a shapeshifter and hunts vampires, the author has drawn her predictably "good" in every other way:
-religious
-loves kids
-doesn't cuss and doesn't allow others to, in her presence
-is irresistible to all men
-etc.
-crippled with guilt
-etc.

So, weirdly nuanced but when she writes about teh Beast in her, very good empathy and storytelling.

Oh, and the most irritating aspect of this series is her best friend Molly's family. Evan is brutish and unintelligent - a complete Neanderthal with magic. He should be put down like a rabid dog. I have NO idea why Molly would find him appealing or why Jane wouldn't cut him dead. It's an utterly un-nuanced relationship.
