Foreverly is a 2013 collaboration between Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong and Grammy winning Pop songstress Norah Jones. Foreverly is an unforgettable collection inspired by "Songs Our Daddy Taught Us", an album of traditional Americana songs reinterpreted, recorded and released by The Everly Brothers in 1958. The album captures the beauty of the Everly's stunning close harmonies to create a moving and powerful testament to these traditional ballads.

Who knew that longtime rocker Billie Joe could pull off a crooning folksy duet? In Foreverly he teams up with Nora Jones to reinterpret the 1958 Everly Brothers album "Songs Our Daddy Taught Us". The two stay true to the traditional sound of the brothers, but yet there are subtleties that, if you pay attention, you can pick out their very individual and familiar sounds. Folk. Rock. Americana. Roots. A bit soft, a bit edgy. I love this album. I picked it up for the cover alone, and got a fantastic surprise that put a smile on my face.

Since Phil Everly's passing I have wanted to hear some of their recordings. Norah Jones and Billie Joe Armstrong give us a collection of the Everly Brothers songs from their 1958 recording "Songs Our Daddy Taught Us". So it is not the 60's hits of the Everly Brothers but songs of their parents generation. The new recordings are a fine tribute to two brothers that were musical leaders of their generation.

I have waited with anticipation to hear this recording ever since I first heard it was being released. Their voices blend really well together and the slower ballads still held my interest, all the while reminding myself that one of the voices is the lead singer of the punk/rock band Green Day. Norah Jones has always had an alluring appeal with her range and styles of music she has done. Doing an album of Everly Brother's songs seems an unusual choice , but it works really well and opens a window into a decade of music all but forgotten- though there is no risk of being converted into an Everly Brother's fan!!
