The third album from MGMT sees the duo continuing to push themselves to expand the boundaries of modern pop music. Here they create a diverse and powerful collection that directly reflects their surrealist view of the everyday.

MGMT's albums keep getting more and more interesting. Here we have their first album with a clear narrative arc, as it progresses from the relatively carefree "Alien Days" to existential torture ("Your Life Is A Lie", "Astro-Macy") to, ultimately, acceptance of death and the meaninglessness of life ("I Love You Too, Death", "Plenty of Girls in the Sea") and something approaching inner peace ("An Orphan of Fortune"). On an intellectual level, it's a beautiful album. Unfortunately, the melodies are often kind of annoying and monotonous, which puts this album among many where it's more enjoyable to read the liner notes than to listen to the actual songs.

Easily the most irritating new album I've listened to in all of 2013. Don't bother.
