A beloved classic shines like never before with an all-new digital restoration. Winner of five Academy Awards, including best actress (Julie Andrews), best song (Chim Chim Cher-ee), and best visual effects. Mary Poppins flies out of the windy London skies and into the home of two mischievous children. With the help of a carefree chimney sweep named Bert (Dick Van Dyke), the spirited nanny turns every chore into a game, and every day into a 'Jolly Holiday.'

I liked the musical DVD. In 1963 or 1964, the movie industry tried to revive the musical from the 1940-1950's. There is very little dialogue in the film. There is lots of singing and dancing (both are well done). The story is not very strong; but, the story is strong enough to keep the plot moving. Some of the movie is silly and nonsense. That was done on purpose to make the story light and humorous. The acting was well done. In 1964 it was the latest graphic ability in the movie industry. It was quite exciting to watch. It is good for all ages.

OUTSTANDING 1964 film which I rate up there with 'Wizard of Oz' - not sure how I hadn't seen it until just now. Dick Van Dyke and Julie Andrews are fab as the two leads - and all the other production aspects, including the integrated animation, are also top notch.

The mix of live action and animation was novel and well pulled off in the day, and it's still good today. The music numbers are fantastic, but the overall plot of the movie is kind of boring.

at age 16 i was waay too mature to go see MP. forty years later at long last i was ready. and fully satisfied, in spite of quaint special effects, cutting edge in the early 60s. anyways, you and yours could do worse than indulge the library's dvd.

oh yeah, and *this* edition includes a second disk, gifting several MakingOf and other extras. in 2012 the much missed late great roger ebert gave it unqualified thumbs up:

This is the first time I see this movie, but I like Julia Andrews in The Sound of Music better.

This is one of the very best movies of all time. Incredible cast! I have loved this all my life. As a kid I watched my father rent this movie six different times one year because he loved it as well. Great for all ages. Walt Disney was a masterful storyteller.

Julie Andrews is perfect in every way in Mary Poppins. I love The Sound of Music much more then Mary Poppins but this musical is still good. Ed Wynn is great when he is up in the ceiling singing "I love to laugh."
I'm not a huge fan of Dick Van Dyke but he is ok as Bert.
