Have you ever heard the phrase "this book has good bones"? Well, this is an example of a book that doesn't. No "good bones" to be found here. A navy-seal type is tasked to investigate a 5-person kidnapping, all five victims associated with the same secretive semi-gov't agency. That summary sounds pretty good, right? I fell for it too. Sorry, but it's poorly structured, junior high level prose, poorly conceived plot, uneven character development, and full of the author's hidden agendas; and worst of all for a book in this category: Just plain boring. If you're looking for adventure-fantasy fiction, while I've only read a couple of his, I expect any of the selections from Clive Cussler are head and shoulder better than this tedious tidbit. Take a pass. Definitely not recommended.

I expect the improbable when reading fiction, but Thor is over the top on this one. A international killer working homicide, for over six years, for a major agency - really? It would take over decade, or longer, for a shining star cop to reach such a position. Someone also should have told Thor that all homicide investigators have their prints and DNA on file to eliminate them from trace evidence found at crime scenes.

I was excited to read this book based on the summary but I was rather disappointed. The plot involves agent Scot Harvath who is tasked with finding and catching the person/group responsible for the death of several members in line for succession to head the federal reserve bank of the U.S. I was hoping there would be more details revolving around the fed and what it really does but the author only dedicated two chapters to it. They were informative chapters but in my opinion, not enough. The story line wasn’t bad but not that different from any other fictional thriller. Overall I just wasn't very impressed.

Another good one from Brad Thor. The characters are likable, the plot line is realistic (for this type of book) and the ending is a surprise. What more could you want? Well written and a great page turner.

Awesome must-read thriller... oh and u learn a bit about the fed too :)

I was a little skeptical about this book because I mostly read non-fiction and the few action/thriller fiction book I have read did little to engage the reader with much more than random unrealistic action sequences and romatic/sexual inuendos.... That said, I still went for this book becuase of the reviews and I was not disappointed...

I think the author does a greeat job of keeping the story engaging while also providing a decent insight into the minds of the characters and operational detail of special ops assignments. As a bonus, in this book you also get to learn some stuff about the Fed... not enough to bore you or veer you off the main story line.. but enough to make interesting small talk in any social situation..

'will definitely read other books by brad thor

Premise is a bit weak. Federal Reserve - really??

I found this one a little slow, but still well done and worth the read.

A great thriller with all the ingredients: the federal reserve, CIA, black ops along with twists and turns.

Thor has taken a current day American problem and not only recognized it but offered solutions. If only politicians could swallow the bitter pill. Once again, well done Brad.
