Add a CommentA quick read. The author seems to be quite taken with multiple metiphors, each more colorful than the previous, but over-the-top for what is necessary to set the scene. He backs off of this style as the story line progressses. This book is not as well developed as others in the genre. The "affair" of the main characters is superfluous to the story line.
"This intricate, high-energy series debut begins with the London kidnapping of the daughter of Indian industrial tycoon Frank D'Cruz, whose business dealings may not always be entirely legit. Though the kidnappers want to deal only with Frank's ex-wife, Frank hires Charles Boxer, a former cop and "kidnapping consultant" who immediately complicates things by falling for the ex-wife (while working with his own ex-wife). Meanwhile, the kidnappers don't seem interested in ransom - rather, they want to make life hell for Frank. Then there are the religious extremists, Indian mobsters, and London's own homegrown crime lords complicating matters. "One of the best thrillers so far this year," says Booklist."
