Fans of New Order argue about whether they are/were a singles or album band. I suppose it has changed over time -- they put out so many 12" singles back in the '80s that was really their foundation, and the albums were for people who wanted more, or one could cynically say, the people who wanted the boring tracks along with the popular ones.

But New Order has changed over the years, obviously, and albums have been their thing for quite some time, and their albums since ... what, 1995? ... pretty much stink. I don't mean to be cruel, but hey, it is how it is.

So, if one has given a listen to all the studio albums, it's easy to say that Power, Corruption and Lies is the easy pick as the best of 'em. The opener and closer, Age of Consent and Leave Me Alone, are the picks of the litter, in my opinion (the track listing on the edition the library has adds a couple of extra tracks not on the original album).

The whole topic of the endless reissues and new editions and compilations and greatest this and that collections that New Order has released is another story in itself. Faced with that onslaught, it is best to go back to the originals (both singles and albums) and when one does that, PCL is at the top of the heap. 5 stars!
