20/9 - I got overly involved in playing The Sims 3 for about a week there, so this took me about three days longer than necessary to read and I didn't get around to writing any updates or notes so this review is just what's coming to mind as I write it.

I was surprised by how little Jill was featured in this book. The whole point of Sydney being there is to keep Jill safe from assassins, yet Jill (and Eddie and Angeline) were only in a few brief scenes. The possibility of assassins seemed to have been almost forgotten and Sydney's attention was pretty much completely focused on Adrian, the truth of the Alchemists, and magic. I'm finally starting to like Adrian and enjoy his interactions with Sydney's, in fact I was surprisingly moved by their reunition scene at the end.

I wasn't surprised when Sydney decided not to go with Marcus (not just because that was obviously not the direction the story was going in), I don't think it would've been a logical part of her character to run off to Mexico or to irrevocably leave the Alchemists (and therefore Jill, Eddie, and Adrian). She may no longer trust or follow the Alchemists, but she's not going to abandon her responsibilities to the others, it's not their fault the Alchemists have turned out to be liars and hypocrites, and they still need her (not that it was obvious during this book).

Adrian is irritating. Why pair a competent young woman with some know it all reprobate whose smart-assed attitude is his chief claim to fame? This would've been more fun and interesting without the obligatory love interest.

This is kind of the beginning to a Romeo and Juliet story or a twilight story

Book 3 in Bloodlines series, preceded by The Golden Lily and followed by The Fiery Heart. It's a good continuation of Sydney's story. We get to finally experience a little bit of a love story for Sydney and Adrian. Still this series is not as exciting as Vampire Academy.

Pretty good book following up to bloodlines and golden lily. I gotta say that the beginning of the story is very slow, much like the previous books. The story really started to pick up near the end (like 100pgs from the end) of the book but I felt like it was really rushed; she made some really rash decisions (like deciding to go to Mexico). Though I would say I was pleasantly surprised at the ending. Nice read overall. Total recommend if you can stand boring beginnings.

A good read but not as good as 'VA'

Loved the witchcraft aspect and all the other intrigues. This book is up the excellent Mead standard.

it was really good but I think I like the Vampire Academy series a bit more. This book was the best of the bloodlines series though.

great book especially for Sydrian! read it in less than 2 hrs, so good. just the right amount of adrian's witty commentary and sydney's technicalities loved the ending. kinda scared for the next one.
