This is a BBC adapted radio play about 3 hours long (there’s silence for the last 16 minutes).

I will admit that it grabbed me right away, but I kept visualizing Sean Connery and Michelle Pfeiffer as the leads (from the film, which I haven’t seen) and just couldn’t, in any way believe the whole romance, great love, sub-plot. There is NO way she would’ve fallen in love after a few meetings with the charming, roguish, saxophone-playing drunk, who could be her grandpa.
And then the ending was a complete let down and I’m so glad I didn’t spend a lot of time involved in the book, only to be disappointed.
Listened to at 1.4 speed.

This is not an unabridged audiobook. It is a severe abridgment of the book in the form of a radioplay.
