Bit of a disappointment. I've been reading this series out of order & some of the later books are great. This is book #1 & I found it way too centred on the characters' personal lives instead of building any tension surrounding the investigation. Glad I didn't start with this one.

The first book in the Intercrime series - Pretty good, will check out more titles. Kristi & Abby Tabby p.s. I agree Wallander series is a 10, this police procedural is a 3...

Comparing Dahl to Mankell is sacrilege. I have read dozens of Scandinavian crime novels and liked all of them. "Misterioso" is the first to break that record. Is it just a bad translation? Or poorly written to begin with? I find myself slogging through it, hoping it's going to get better, to no avail. I will never read another of his books; life is too short. 1/2 *

I can only assume the translation was bad. Stilted, hard to read. Not enjoyable at all.

Its snappy plot and Swedish setting will probably earn it a comparison to The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo, but Misterioso should really be considered as a continuation of Henning Mankell's Wallander series, as they both center on Swedish police detectives who will pursue justice, even at the cost of their personal lives. Sharp action, likable characters, and a contemplative tone keep this mystery crackling all the way through: if you like headbutts and Oceans 11-type plots, you will love this book!
