I think this is an underrated movie by Kevin Smith. No, it's not another pop culture referencing crude comedy. Instead it's more in line with the spirit of Dogma in challenging modern religious notions, whether they be fanatical or more secular. I found the comparison of Michael Parks (very well acted) as the charismatic leader of a cult style community with John Goodman's (also very well done) ATF group and talking to his "god" on the phone very interesting. While the end is a bit absurd, I understand why it was done... the same reason "Dogma" was made... just with a little more graphic violence and subtle subtext.

A very unique movie from Silent Bob; totally unpredictable and unexpected twists. Michael Parks was excellent as the radical extremist -- genuinely hateful. John Goodman was well cast, too. In hindsight, I can't really summarize my rating of it; good, bad, or indifferent. It's a strange film, and I'm not sure what Smith was trying to express with it. Was it a quasi-horror? A social commentary? What was the point?

This movie was terrible. “Dumb, boring and stupid” Waste of time - Waste of Electrical power.
It would be a waste of money to buy. "I fast forwarded all the way."

Saw this last year actually - and didn't give it a second bad thought (yeah... it really stinks!) until I just noticed all the rave reviews it's been given on this board. I have to admit I don't see what everyone enjoyed in this flick (Kevin Smith, be damned!) ...It's a very bad Roger Corman imitation (having a young Jack Nicholson in it, might have helped) full of its self-importance, and to be frowned upon for its gratuitous violence. Any 2011 movie that is so desperate as to get an ol' chestnut like Michael Parks ("Bus Riley's Back in Town" -1965) as its resident 'bad guy' - is either pathetically under-budgeted, or its casting director was intellectually challenged and Hollywood-historically naive. p.s. The Christian hate-movement in Tinseltown should lobby for its own Oscars category, judging by the volume of anti-Christian films (like this) streaming out of Hollywood. After dismissing the pithy anti-Christian slant, here, you really have to ask - what's behind it?

Mrs. Vasquez (to her students): "Abin Cooper holds our entire state up for ridicule, alright... Ultra-conservatives, avoid this guy. Did you know, last year, the head of the largest Neo-Nazi faction in this country, issued a statement distancing his politics from Cooper's and Five Points... Even the Nazis... think this guy's nuckin' futs."

Joseph Keenan (in a shootout with Pastor Abin Cooper and his flock): "You said this was going to be a simple in-and-out, sir." (holds phone up to sound of machine gun fire) "Simple just sh*t itself."
