This is my 4th Karen White. I loved the Sound of Glass so much that I read and reviewed it twice. The first book in this series, The House on Tradd Street, was good enough for me to keep reading.

The Girl on Legare Street not so much. The only saving grace in The Strangers on Montagu Street are the arrival of Jack's daughter Nola and several LOL lines. The book is essentially a repeat of The Girl on Legare Street. This time Melanie decamps to her mother's house with Nola and her doll house in tow because there is an issue with her house's foundation.

The doll house is haunted. The author's attempts to create drama and suspense fall flat because they are tediously repeated. There's another family cemetery and damage to Melanie's car at the end of the book. The romantic tension between Jack and Melanie isn't credible or probable. A guy devoted to his daughter doesn't disappear for weeks at a time because he has petty issues with the woman caring for her. And, what's up with an otherwise responsible guy getting two women pregnant?

If the Return to Tradd Street isn't better, I'm done with this series.
