‘Operation Napoleon’ (2011) was the first book I had read by Indrioason Arnaldur; it will not be the last! I hated to put this book down.

It was originally written in Icelandic, and then translated into English. This fiction spans the period 1945 as WWII is coming to an end through 2005. For the first time that I can recall as a reader, this book depicts the dirty dealing of US intelligence operatives who are not painted in the best light in this book what-so-ever. The heroine of this story is desperately trying to save her brother’s life and solve the mystery behind a downed aircraft that has reappeared after being trapped for over 60 years in Iceland’s largest glacier. What secrets does that airplane hold and why is the American intelligence community trying so desperately to conceal the airplanes existence? It alludes to an age old rumour or supposition, but I’ll leave the rest to the next reader to discover – what!

I’d rate this book right up there on my highest rating scale of very interesting books that I have read lately, such as: David Hunt’s ‘Without Mercy’ and ‘Terror Red, and Newt Gingrich’s ‘Treason.’

As an postscript, potential future readers of Newt Gingrich’s recommended book will want to first read Gingrich’s Duplicity (2015), then Treason (2016) followed by Vengeance (2017).

Operation Napoleon is highly recommended by Senior Doctor-at-Bass-Fishing! D. A.

This was a first read for me by a wonderful author who certainly knows his history and weaves it into a mystery that is one I could barely put down! Looking forward to more from this author on stand-alone books.

a quick read due to the cardboard characters. think he was trying to write an action movie.

pretty mediocre adventure - thriller Reads like a weak Ken Follett novel

Cover looks like a WWII thriller but it really is a contemporary story set in Iceland, with a link to something that happened in WWII.

I would of give 5 stars to the quick moving action story but the "something" was disappointing and not as farfetched as the story implies.

Not his best but as good as most on the theme of CIA conspiracies, NAZI secrets. Cleaver method of including Erlendur & Sigurder Oli in what is otherwise not one of thier tales.

Great suspense and extraordinary premise.
