Encouraging! Kenny makes the case that "development" in the broader sense does not have to mean rising GDP or personal income. New technologies (in the broadest sense of the word) are improving health care, life expectancy, infant and child mortality, and access to disease prevention around the world. Access to education is also improving, especially in the developing world. Good government and democracy are also on the rise--perhaps slower, but this was written before the "Arab Spring" of 2011.

Sadly, there's still a long way to go. But it's good to know we are making progress.
