Horrifying and grotesque but an overall well-crafted film. So be prepared for blood and torture scenes... I really didn't know how to rate this, because it was the subject matter and viscera I had a problem with--the acting, directing, cinematography are all top-notch.

it's probably best to see the films of kim jee woon's where he's listed as both director & writer. there's no denying the quality performances given by the actors here, and the direction + cinematography are praise-worthy, but the script takes the movie into generic gore territory. if that's all you expect, then you shouldn't feel disappointed.

A good action film, but a poor advertisement for South Korea, where half the male population is some kind of criminal, and no one is very bright. Oldboy's Min-sik Ch'oe gives his serial killer character a third dimension. Warning: the violence is extreme, and worse, for a North American audience, surreal and earthy.

This is the worst Kim Jee Woon movie I've seen. I understand the premise of the movie but at somepoint it became another version of Oldboy. What a waste of a talented director and cast.
