Excellent as usual.

Yet another in the Inspector Montalbano series.

The main character is just trying to get by on a daily basis and do the right thing. He doesn't want promotion so doesn't kowtow to the higher-ups in the Police.

The pacing is slow with interspersed absurd moments. All of the books are gentle reads appropriate for rainy days or sitting on the beach.

Italian TV has adapted the books for broadcast and the results are generally faithful to the books. BBC is running some of the episodes now (2012).

This book is #12 in the Inspector Salvo Montalbano series and I’ve read them all. Maybe it’s only me, but this series is getting boring and the author seems to have run out of ideas to keep the attention of those reading the full series ; the cast of 6 or 8 ongoing characters are all there but they haven’t changed in any meaningful way (probably so that one can get away with reading the series out of sequence), though one character now wears glasses; big deal; the crime story part is okay, though not exciting, but it’s the overall sameness that bores a faithful reader. I may not bother with #13 in the series.

If it takes a weird dream to begin a story, I am not interested in finding out what other weirdness is in the book.
