Busy Body --- by --- M.C. Beaton
If there is such a thing as comfort food then this must be a novelist’s version of comfort reading. It is in its very Britishness that we are meant to feel comforted and warm. The rain invariably drips off the edges of the roofs of the thatched roof cottages. The police constables are courteous and conspicuously unarmed. And when the going gets tough, our feisty investigator is likely to repair the local pub for a pint. Stone built Georgian cottages and row houses describe the quaint villages, reigned over by a quaint, centuries old, Anglican church.
As is the usual case, in Busy Body, protagonist investigator Agatha Raisin has been retained to solve a murder which quickly turns into a multiple murder. Because the police, fearful of their standing in the community, are not co-operative, Agatha is forced to solve the case virtually single handled. That is, with the help of her associates at her detective agency.
As usual, MC’s story is well crafted. I defy you to figure out who did the heinous deed before Agatha does.
A most enjoyable novel.
Love this series. I'm sad that I go through them so fast and then there won't be any more! Any more fans want to suggest similar reads? Well written but light and amusing and so easy to keep turning those pages!
I do love the Agatha Raisin mysteries, but I'm with Palomino. I do like Hamish Macbeth even more.
Very boring and seemingly haphazard grouping f thoughts.
Could not get into it at all and stopped about a third of the way.
A fun read that keeps me turning the pages to find out who done it. Angela always wins in the end.
Agatha Raisin is always worth the reading. It's kind of nice (I'm reading a book right now with a perky heroine) that she's sneaky and flawed.
Another good Agatha Raisin book. Like the others, certainly not heavy or serious reading, but relaxing and fun.
If you like Agatha Raisin, read the same author's Hamish Macbeth series, it's even better.
Agatha Raisin doing what she does best! Solving murders, solving other peoples problems but unable to find and/or keep the right man.
As usual, one can always rely on M.C. Beaton's Agatha Raisin to provide a humourous, curious, and enjoyable read!
