The audiobook version of "Into Thin Air" was certainly as interesting as the written version. Having the author perform the narration himself was an added bonus, though a bit tough to listen to at times (being that he isn't a professional voiceover / narrarator).

Having enjoyed reading his book several times throughout the years, I randomnly saw the audiobook version on the shelves at the Seattle Library one day and decided to rent it. If you're in to audiobooks, then give it a try. For those of you who have already read the book, give it a try as well since there are minute differences in the audiobook version (mostly of Krakauer's addition of little notes worked in to the narration that are normally found on the bottom pages or ending pages of a book version).

I thought the book was very well written and compelling but was disappointed in the CD. The author is a writer not a narrator. I found his voice droll and could not even finish listening to it.

Yes, I was lazy and I checked out the CD rather than the book, however - I must add that I did (later) check out the book too and read along. The audio added tidbits which were nice. I think the book was written very honestly and I respect that. It was amazingly sad and I cried through part of this book. I think the emotions were still in "process" and the core has yet to be touched and it shows in the writing.

Probably the best audiobook I've listened to. An amazing story. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a good adventure / survival story.
