“The Lightning Thief” is an excellent start to an outstanding series. “The Lightning Thief” included genres of fantasy, greek mythology, and fiction. Ranging from the half-bloods to Camp Half-Blood itself, it reminded me a lot of the Harry Potter series. “The Lightning Thief” had an amazing plot that made me want to keep reading, monsters described in a way where I could feel their essence, characters with great character development, and overall it was written very well. I finished this book quickly and was dying to get my hands on the next book. If you read the Harry Potter series and enjoyed it, this may be your next favourite series. Without a doubt, I would recommend reading this book for ages 9+. 5/5 stars.

Narrator Bernstein does a fine job--it's easy to keep the characters straight, and his reading of Percy himself is spot on!

We checked out this audiobook for a long car trip. It turned my 10-year-old into a Greek Mythology fan. He's now read the Ken Jenning's mythology book and the Brick Greek Myths, and he's comparing and contrasting what he knows from the different versions of the stories. He enjoys the actor's tone and voices in the story and we will continue to listen to the series over the summer.

This was the book that turned me into a Percy Jackson fan. The book introduces readers to the world of gods and Greek mythology, as well as showing how they tie to the lives of Perseus Jackson a 12 year old troubled child living in Manhattan. The story is excellently written and is shown from the Percy's point of view It shows the struggles he has had to face as a demigod for his whole life. The book teaches readers about Greek Mythology and how it has been around for thousands of years. The book shows the adventures demigods would have to do for god's bidding, and how certain gods can be very treacherous and deceitful. The book shows the importance of friends and how friends can betray you at any instance. There are many memorable moments established in this book, one of these moments is Percy defeating the Minotaur as he first arrives at camp Half Blood. This book was able to appeal to me because I was interested by the fact that Percy had been living life like a normal human for the majority of his life, I loved reading about Percy's transition from a lonely troubled child to a monster killing hero. My personal favorite moment from this book was when Percy is told about his origins and his ties to the gods, for me I really enjoyed Percy's reaction to this news. If I had to give this book a rating out of ten I would certainly give it no less than a 9. If you are looking for a children's fantasy book, than your search is over. Once you read this book you will want to read the rest of the series.

Much better than the film of the same name, not sure why the film felt the need to deviate from the source material as wildly as it did. Could have been better, and I'm not a huge fan of the 1st Person writing style. It also seems to have a ton of parallels to Harry Potter on some basic levels. Not saying I didn't enjoy the book, and I'm not saying it was bad.

I've been assuming I wouldn't like this series. "It's not my kind of book" So when I saw it available as a downloadable audio book, I gave it a shot and really enjoyed it.
This is the first in the series. We meet the main characters, get introduced to lots of Greek myths both bad and good. In Percy's world, myths turn out to be real.
I'm looking forward to the next adventure.

Frightening or Intense Scenes: There are some particularly intense bits, but it's fine if you don't have too much of a wild imagination!
