Carl Fredericksen, a retired balloon salesman, is part rascal and part dreamer who is ready for his last chance at high-flying excitement. Tying thousands of balloons to his house, Carl sets off to the lost world of his childhood dreams. Unbeknownst to Carl, Russell, an overeager eight-year-old Wilderness Explorer who has never ventured beyond his backyard, is in the wrong place at the wrong time. The world's most unlikely duo reach new heights and meet fantastic friends. Stuck together in the wilds of the jungle, Carl realizes that sometimes life's biggest adventures aren't the ones you set out looking for.

Opinion

From Library Staff

After his wife dies, an elderly balloon salesman decides to go on the trip to South America that he and his wife always planned to take. A reminder that you're never too old to fulfill your dreams. Great fun for the whole family.

Up is an instant classic that I can watch over and over and still find something new to enjoy each time I see it.

For adult and child alike. A coming of age story both for a child and a elderly reclusive. A truly enjoyable film.

A contender for best animated feature ever, Pete Docter's co-written story and direction both touches the viewer and offers smart, mature comical moments. In watching the film, I realized that most animated works just don't really say much about our society as a whole. This one does and, I feel, handles it even better than Docter's co-written story from the previous year, "WALL-E".

Just a clash of a series of events. To make the story more meaningful it could have included more about the loving relationship between the main character and his wife. Less than a 1 star.

Carl Fredricksen: This is crazy. I finally meet my childhood hero and he's trying to kill us. What a joke.

Dug: Hey, I know a joke! A squirrel walks up to a tree and says, "I forgot to store acorns for the winter and now I am dead." Ha! It is funny because the squirrel gets dead.
