Trust. It's the foundation of any enduring relationship between friends, lovers, spouses, and families. But when trust is placed in those who are not what they seem, the results can be deadly. Ann Rule, who famously chronicled her own shocking experience of unknowingly befriending a sociopath in The Stranger Beside Me, offers a riveting, all-new collection from her true-crime files, with the lethally shattered bonds of trust at the core of each blood-soaked account.

Ann Rule's words are vivid and deeply catch and hold the imagination. Her stories read like novels even though they are true-crime accounts. Her handling of what could feel almost voyeuristic is mostly done with compassion for the victim and often includes some insight into the possible motivation behind the crime, so that the probable thoughts of the killer might be included. This can be uncomfortable. True crime by its nature should be restricted to mature readers.

Ann Rule does not disappoint. Her eye for details is amazing. Always a good read.
