I thoroughly enjoyed this well researched book though I've read and understand the complaints.

The author does an excellent job of painting a very clear picture of the southwest during the depression, and prison life for Clyde before he and Bonnie get together.

Using recorded quotes of B&C and others who knew or were affected by them, he creates a very compelling story, I couldn't put it down.

While trying to sound authoritative in gathering first person accounts, the author invents Clyde's thoughts as he speeds through several states with his girlfriend. And while I may believe that Bonnie was not a cigar smoking floosie - he purports that she is very modest in dress and tone and I cannot believe that she didn't have a hand in the violence that occurred. As well the ending is very unfinished and leaves the reader wondering what happened next. This book rates almost as bad as the 1967 movie for me. And that movie was BAD!
