“We learned to live creatively and gradually to set aside the past habits that had, in part, caused us harm” --Graham Kerr, explaining their change in lifestyle–page 24, 2007 edition.
“ …with a new, much healthier way of eating but without a new way of living, we settled down to eat and yet be eaten by a profound sense of failure….Our salvation came through our maid, Ruthie Turner….She did a great job on our 10,800 square-foot home. She followed this with a prayer vigil along with her inner city Pentecostal Holiness Church in Wilmington, Delaware. Eventually, after several months, she was bold enough to say to Treena, Mrs. Kerr, why don’t you give your troubles to God.” Treena replied, “Alright, God, if you are so clever, You deal with me because I can’t.” (page 4, 2007 edition) –Graham explains how their lives changed, as Treena described in their first book together, “Recipe for Life.”
SummaryAdd a Summary
This is not a cookbook of home-style comfort foods using few ingredients, made speedily, and full of photos. Maybe the Kerrs will do that someday. Photos would make this cookbook heavy and expensive: This is an approximately 260-page gourmet cookbook jam-packed with cooking ideas, hints, and tips, and most cooks could find something here of value. Kerr, once declared by a weight-loss organization to be the most dangerous man in the world to those wanting to lose weight, has since turned his attention to healthy and delicious living. Recipes include Treena’s dressing, which is an olive oil-and-vinegar for salads made with garlic, ginger and honey; also pan-glazed ribs (no grill needed), and recipes with international flair including Basque, Philippine, Italian, Indian and Irish dishes, among others. For cooks who can cope with few photos, the “Day-by-Day Gourmet” is a treasury of ideas.
