This excellent book is also a very difficult to read book because it is very dense. Like eating delicious dense bread. The plot is hard to digest, but it is well worth reading.

I love a book that allows me to experience a different way of life, and to meet and understand people I would otherwise never have the chance to do. This story quietly lets us experience determination in the face of discouraging circumstances of several diverse members of a modern Chinese community.
