I enjoyed reading and admiring the wonderful illustrations featuring the most famous (or infamous) explosive volcanic eruption ever recorded by humanity. Simon Winchester's prose version is a great and detailed read and I recommend that in addition to this "...highly illustrated..." version for children and young teens. The prose is light on details, but that's to be expected. It's actually welcome to read it in this manner because it focuses on the pertinent details of the Krakatoa event of 1883. And Mr. Winchester's prose is elegant and intriguing enough to draw the reader in as well as want for more information. Jason Chin's fantastic illustrations complement the sparse prose quite nicely and do justice to this awesome and terrible event. I've read Mr. Chin's Grand Canyon and was mesmerized. This lead to Mr. Winchester's work and the rest, as they say, is history.
