This is a good-size book by Chinese Nobel Literary Prize winner Mo Yan. Excellent translation by Howard Goldblatt. It is about life re-incarnated and life seen from different angles, including that from the view point of animals. An interesting diversion to a culture and its values that the average reader would otherwise have no or little access to. Recommended for the open-minded readers.
The 2012 Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded to Chinese author Mo Yan, "who with hallucinatory realism merges folk tales, history and the contemporary," according to the citation read by Peter Englund, permanent secretary of the Swedish Academy.
