At first, I said no way. 10 pages in I wanted to give up. However, I pressed on and fell in love. The characters all started to grow on me and the unique style was addictive. I say give it a chance, and though sometimes strange - after the last page I realized how clever the whole thing really was.

This is similar in tone to Fight Club, in terms of theme, but it takes a crazy twist toward the middle that turns it from a Tom Sawyeresque narrative into a more of a dystopia/sci-fi story. It will leave you thinking, though.

Fabulous book, loved the format, loved the characters. Probably be a movie someday soon. Hope they can do it justice.

Has moments of quiet brilliance as Palahniuk recounts Rant's childhood and adolescence, but soon collapses in on itself as the author pulls the sheet of the table only to expose twisted explanations that go round and round and round in confusing strains that mean nothing, kind of like this review.

By far one of my favorite books of all time, and one of the best of Chuck Palahniuk's career. I am very surprised it did not win more awards. Very original writing style, quite a page-turner. I would recommend this to anyone, it touches on so many subjects and cannot be weighted down by a specific theme or genre. It explores the complications of growing up in a small town, the tendencies of daredevils, falling in love, pseudo-super-powers, and a global viral epidemic and death. Its just a great read, no matter what you like or how old you are (though some of the language and topics are a little adult.)

Pretty standard Palahniuk. Instead of underground fight clubs, it's underground "party crashers". Still, it was pretty funny/gross/disturbing in the style that we love from Chuck.
