This is a memoir of an American woman who marries a distant cousin, a Scottish landowner. Although there seems to be a central theme of ancestral duty, I did enjoy parts of the book such as how a Scottish garden differs from those in England. The author obviously seemed to have an aristocratic attitude in the States as well as Scotland. Throughout the book, I was discouraged that she was missing the most beautiful parts of Scotland--its immense beauty in nature and its people.
