This is the first book I have read that is written by a Wehrmacht soldier about his experiences on the Eastern front. He could be any soldier in any war in which the conditions strip humanity from the human being. This young man died from unknown causes in an unknown place on that front. Fortunately he wrote whenever he could and his thoughts were recovered almost 60 years after the end of WWII. Regardless of the perspective, the horrors of war are universal. Recommend.
