Excellent. Seen this many years ago and forgot much of it except for GOODNIGHT YOU PRINCES OF MAINE, YOU KINGS OF NEW ENGLAND. Michael Caine a favorite. Toby McGuire played a great role.

Excellent adaptation of the book; the lengthy book is worth the read.

Excellent plot, good acting, worthy sentiments. A fine way to spend the time it took watching it.

Set in 1942, filmed in 1999, the story touches upon sensitive social issues that are timeless. Well executed.

Sweet without necessarily being sentimental. A feel-good movie in some really awful situations.

To me this is a "feel-good" movie with some uncomfortable issues (ie incest and whether it really is better to lie at times rather than to tell the truth).

There is no perfect creation and/but this is a substantial movie which allows you to come to your own conclusions (hint - I do think that honest is the best policy).

LOVED it! Very well acted, beautiful scenery, held my full interest throughout. The book is always better than the movie but I thought this was a good adaptation. John Irving himself wrote the screenplay (won an Oscar for it) and even appeared in the movie so you know that it is what he would have wanted. An extremely heartfelt movie, touching, moving.....HIGHLY recommend.

The movie was interesting, humorous and heartbreaking. It was well done, but not excellent. I gave it 3 1/2 stars and may watch it again. However, please note, it is based on one of the best most involved and detialed novels ever. As a man who enjoys John Irving's writing, i believe the only way to adapt his work and to do justice to Irving's bittersweet, funny, tragic, and quirky writing would be a mini-series. Too much was left ouf of this adaption. Read the book. If you've read the book, don't see the movie.

Good - Overall good production values with an entertaining story despite some awkward thematic messaging.

GREAT HONOR TO ALL ORPHANAGES ALL OVER THE WORLD, taking care & raising abandoned children to be self-reliant productive men & women of the society.

Beautiful story, great scenery & excellent uplifting endeavor.
