I had requested this book a long time ago and finally got the message I had a hold to pick up. I did enjoy the story quite a bit as it was small town Northern Ontario, where I grew up, and liked reading about places I've actually been to. I reread several sentences to get the full or correct jist of the sentences, but I did get there finally.
Brilliant! LOVE the Canadian content! Want more from this author!
I would say that as a whole Pyper is a great writer, loved the damned, demonologist is great so far, and this book was nuanced ghost story/horror detailing how our pasts really do haunt us no matter how hard we try to forget. Loved it!
Lawyer Bartholomew Crane's first murder trial involves two murdered teenagers in an economically depressed northern Ontario town. Themes of teenage angst, small town close-mindedness and the spookiness of off-season lakes and cottage country make this a compelling thriller/ ghost story/ mystery--and a block-buster debut Canadian novel.
Blind Date With a Book Comment:"Not the usual kind of book I read so it was a nice change to read a suspense /murder /thriller. I enjoyed that it was Canadian. I felt that some parts were unclear and needed re-reading."
When you start reading you think the book has potential. Halfway through it peters out. So much descriptions of dreams, ghost stories real or imagined, or drug induced by the principle character's addiction to cocaine. Could not finsh this book, just didn't care!
