I got this on my Kindle since library closed. A beautiful look into lives of extraordinary people. The lyrical, vivid writing combined the epic storytelling is devastating yet beautiful. The only drawback is the book is long and wordy towards the last one hundred or so pages. The movie also is very, very good with great acting by Nick Nolte and Barbra Streisand.

A sad and beautiful book. I found the prologue quite dull and wordy, almost to the point that I wasn't going to bother with it. But once I got into the story and the characters, I couldn't put it down. Conroy's imagery and storytelling are superb, and while I'd argue it could be a tad shorter (certain conversations went on and on redundantly for several pages), I definitely recommend it.

Conroy's writing is undoubtedly beautiful. His nature writing is superb - an added bonus I did not expect with this book. I found this book dull at points, but was motivated to continue by Conroy's mastery of craft.

Bleak, dark, poetic story of twins Tom and Savannah, and their very different reactions to growing up in an extremely dysfunctional South Carolina family.

RIP Pat Conroy. We who love your books will miss you, but you've suffered enough.

Three decades after its initial publication, this remains one of the quintessential Southern novels. You'll laugh, cry, think ... and in some cases, hurl - and have a marvelous time doing all four reading this book.

This is a monumental work and one of the best books I have ever read. A "must" for a list of best American literature.
