If you're a film fan, you've probably been hearing a lot about the Bechdel Test lately. It's a simple test: a movie (or TV show) has to feature a) two women talking b) about something other than a man. You'd be amazed how many films don't pass it. The films of Nicole Holofcener all pass it and she's worked quietly over the past decade, finally getting a lot of attention with her latest "Enough Said." She emerged from the 90s indie boom with "Walking and Talking" and her movies usually focus on a group of friends (or a family) and their day to day crises. They also all have Catherine Keener. Her second film has a sick mom and her daughters, one of whom is an insecure actress (Emily Mortimer) and the other of whom is a sharp-tongued, out of work artist (Catherine Keener). Not a lot happens, but the acting is great and the writing real and subtle. I feel if she were a man, she'd get the same attention that the egregiously overrated Alexander Payne does. This features a very awkward scene in which a naked Mortimer asks a man to critique her body. Also, see "Please Give" and "Friends with Money."

Director Nicole Holofcener has written a wonderful story of a close and also neurotic family of woman and the experiences they go through together. A wonderful cast with Catherine Keener, Emily Mortimer, Durmot Mulroney, Brenda Blenyth, Jake Gyllenhaal, etc. I really enjoy Holofcener's work and recommend this film!
