I read this in a day and a half. It has been many years since one captures me so quickly and held my attention the whole time! Worth the read!
Just what I enjoy in an over-the-top, juicy, and outrageous thriller: (possible) unreliable narrators/protagonists galore, plenty of twists and turns, and an author who really goes there with some seriously dark stuff. This is my first Hoover and I know she's very popular. And now I understand why: this was certainly a top-notch, page-turning, immensely readable little book.
A romantic, twisted thriller and one of the best by Colleen Hoover. Verity is a very popular author who is now in a coma but has a contract to finish her book series. Her husband Jeremy hires author Lowen to finish the series. However, what really happened to Verity? What about their girls? I kept going back and forth in this book on what was real and what was fiction. The ending is fabulous! The only thing I disliked was the heavy language and several steamy scenes!
A suspenseful thriller that kept me turning the pages. I kept trying to decide on which character I believed, and as more details were uncovered, I kept questioning my loyalty. This has flawed characters, an interesting plot, and an ambiguous ending.
Is there not an Ebook version in English?! I was so excited to get the ebook, but it's in another language. Where can I see on a book description what language it is written?
What did I just read? This book was insane. It is a classic case of "who do you believe?" This book follows Lowen who has taken a recent job to help finish the last 3 books in Verity's 9 part series after Verity becomes incapacitated from a car accident. Once Lowen moves in to do some research on the past novels, not all is what it seems in this family... My friends and I were literally screaming as I was reading this, it was just so shocking at so many times and in so many different ways. I was equally shocked to find out that Colleen Hoover is primarily a romance writer, and this was her first of this type (could have fooled me!). If you are looking for something to keep you on the edge of your seat DEFINITELY reach for this one!
I had to take multiple pauses throughout Verity because some parts made me feel physically ill. And not in a good way. Some parts are so intense and graphic that it makes you second guess yourself. Despite all the gruesome parts...it's so satisfying to read. Colleen Hoovers writing is utterly magical. The characters are so dynamic, and you honestly have no idea what to expect...even though i finished Verity months ago, I still have no clue what was real and what was fake. And I like it that way.
This was an absolute page turner. It ensnared my mind and I could not get it out of my head. I am still saying wow.... wow. Thrillers aren’t my usual picks but this one is a definite read. ...... I’ll remember this one for a while.
Suspenseful until the end and very “steamy” through many pages, this book wasn’t disappointing at all. Fast and very enjoyable read. My second one from this author and I will be going for more!
Oh, wow, what a blast! An edge-of-your-seat thriller that snags your attention and sinks its teeth deep. Just when you think the danger will come from one angle, the shoe drops in another. Lowen and Jeremy are relatable characters with good chemistry and similar histories, and the tight plot makes it a quick read. If manipulating villains are your cup of tea, then make yourself comfortable with Verity. I'm delighted this novel turned out to be a fabulous introduction to an unfamiliar author. 4.5 stars.
Another great book by Colleen Hoover! I just love her writing style and how she grabs your interest right up front. I'd call this one an erotic thriller (get ready for a lot of f-bombs) but a real page-turner. I couldn't put it down. Definite twist at the end, with finale living the reader still wondering a bit. Highly recommend!
What I liked: unusual plot, like-able main character, fast paced, creepy, suspenseful
What I disliked: too many F-words, too many explicit sex scenes, the ending
Fantastic read! I stayed up until 2am in the morning to finish this book. I was determined to find out how it ended, and because I just couldn’t put it down! AMAZING! I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a good psychological mystery!
This. Book. I couldn't put it down!! I read it all in a day. Exceptional twists and oh so smart.
This book was a great choice to bring along on a short getaway: short, easy read. The story moves along at a good clip, and the twist was unexpected (perhaps because I'm not a writer).
I loved this page-turner. It is a quick, easy read (nothing wrong with that!) and I was engaged from the first page. I actually read for two hours in the middle of the night. That's a 5-star book for me.
Lowen is desperate for money, so when an unexpected writing opportunity comes her way, she doesn’t have a lot of choice but to accept. It doesn’t hurt that after an unexpected encounter, she finds herself irresistibly attracted to the client - Jeremy. But after all he’s been through (and still going through), he is most certainly off limits, right? Right??
Filling Verity’s shoes is overwhelming...but is there more to Verity’s story? To this family’s story? When Lowen finds Verity’s manuscript for an autobiography she can’t stop herself from reading it...but what will she do with the information contained inside? As the unexpected details unfold chapter by chapter, an ugly truth is exposed. Who can be trusted to do the right thing...and what is the right thing anyway?
Pros: The dark subject matter set the scene for some very unsettling/suspenseful moments. The plot moved along quickly, and I loved the ending.
Cons: Hard to put down, but considering the subject matter, it is what I would consider a “light” read, as in it didn’t require much thought. That’s fine too...just don’t go in expecting too much.
YES or NO: It’s an unnerving YES - worth reading if you are a fan of dark thrillers...
