There were a few times you met interesting characters but overall this just felt like an empty vessel with a lot of uninteresting filler. Not a compelling story.

A thoroughly enjoyable book. Ivan Doig leads us and the boy through one scrape after another and we keep reading because we want to know how Donny is going to pull it off this time. Terrific ending.

Our book club chose this book as the reading for our January 2022 meeting. I’m glad someone suggested it. Reminiscent of Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer, the hero is an imaginative boy who teams up with his German “uncle” to explore the wild west…

Excellent summer read. Having a kid as this book's protagonist reminds me of another great Doig book, 'This House of Sky'.

Another great book by Ivan Doig….it got a little slow after the first chapters, but quickly became capitating as you read on.

Another charming coming of age tale from a master storyteller. Donal gets sent from the familiar Two Medicine Country to Wisconsin, when his grandmother has to have serious surgery that will have a long recovery. He has adventures on the…

I have a fond place in my heart for Mr Doig so I imagine I rate his books a little higher than I would another author. This feels a bit like a tale told around a campfire, maybe over numerous nights. Although it occurs in the Montana that…

Not sure how I found this one but so glad I did. It was a fun read! Will definitely look for previous tales by the author who has sadly had his last rodeo.

An old fashioned western told from a boy's perspective. Charming

Similar in some ways to Bartender's Tale, the common denominator being a story told by Donny, a 12 year old boy. This is about discovery, overcoming adversity in various forms and a glimpse into the days of the West years ago along with…

Winsome and humorous.... another fond glimpse of life in the West by consummate author Ivan Doig, who died in 2015.

Ivan Doig's last book, poignant humorous coming-of-age tale of 11 year old Donal Cameron, who travels alone by bus, from his comfortable ranch life with his ailing grandmother to a confusing town life with her fussy sister and cowed…

What a sad irony that Ivan Doig's last novel is titled, "Last Bus to Wisdom." Mr. Doig passed away in April, so this may be our last chance to savor his wisdom. Doig's writing celebrates the American West, the characters it produces and…

Ivan Doig's book , "Last Bus to Wisdom", is one big cliche, it seems wiritten for Hollywood. Boring.

How appropriate that Ivan Doig's last book is "Last Bus to Wisdom." An absolutely wonderful, wandering trip on the "dog bus" with 11-year-old (going on 12) Donal Cameron. Adventures and wisdom galore.

I will miss Ivan Doig’s books so much! He left us a legacy of a beautifully written last novel. I keep saying trying to pick my favorite Doig book is impossible, but this ranks close to the top. Doig pulled my heart into the story of…

This is my first Ivan Doig novel and it was an engaging story that was well written. I would have given it 5 stars but it had a couple of slow parts and the ending just didnt grab me like I had hoped. The author did describe the…

Ivan Doig's last novel is a boisterous and unpredictable road novel written only as a Montanan can pen or a westerner can understand. As Doig writes in this final novel about a boy leaving and returning in a roundabout way to…

This book reminded me of a rich tapestry. The weaving in all its richness with so many dimensions. Perhaps not totally appreciated by all. However, I lived in Wisconsin in that time, near Manitowoc, and can attest to the authenticity of…

Young Donal Cameron has the summer of his life when his guardian grandmother has 'female' surgery and he’s sent to Wisconsin to stay with a great aunt and uncle he hardly knows. Doig put his heart in this book, returning us to familiar…
