While you may know that President John F. Kennedy was one of nine children in a wealthy, ambitious, East Coast family, you likely haven't heard much about his sister, Rosemary, whom the family kept hidden away for most of her life. Due a…

This is a distressing story about the hidden sister, Rosemary, in the Kennedy clan. Joseph Kennedy Sr. made decisions about his eldest daughter against the wishes of Rose and knowledge of the younger siblings. In her early young adult…

I’m a huge fan of the Kennedy family, so I absolutely had to read this. Although I already knew a lot about Rosemary Kennedy (or at least I thought I did), I still learned many things I didn’t know before. I especially loved the book’s…

When I first saw this book, I immediately snatched it up. I always enjoy reading about one of the U.S.'s most famous families, and here was one member of that family that I didn't know very much about. I was immediately enthralled, and…

Kudos to the author, Karen Clifford Larsen, for capturing the heart and soul of Rosemary Kennedy who in turn captured the hearts of everyone who crossed her path--her friends, family and caregivers. Enlightening, heart warming and…

Well researched and well written. It is heart-wrenchingly hard to separate our attitudes now from those held about disabled citizens of just a few generations ago. I appreciate this book as a tribute to Rosemary Kennedy who was the…

I didn't know the TRUE story of Rosemary Kennedy until I read this book. It's too bad more of her family weren't still alive to hear about how her mental condition could have been PREVENTED. Instead she was deprived of oxygen in the birth…

This book is exactly what I expected about the Kennedy "royalty' and how they treated Rosemary. I was impressed with the fact the book was honestly written. The best part of the book for me was when Rosemary slapped her mother.

Fantastic book for book group discussions. Rosemary details the young life of Rosemary Kennedy along with life after her operation. This book provides more insight into the workings of the Kennedy family.

After reading Koehler's book on Rosemary, I found this biography much more complete and comprehensive. It delves into a time when mental health issues were seriously frowned upon and explains, while not condoning, Joseph Kennedy's ultimate…

This is the sad story of the true life of Rosemary Kennedy, third child of Joe and Rose Kennedy. She was born during the 1918 flu epidemic, the doctor was delayed and the nurse made the decision to force the baby to stay in the birth canal…

I thought the author did a great job of telling Rosemary's story. I knew the family had a daughter with developmental difficulties, but was horrified to learn so many details. I would highly recommend this book.

This book was good in that there was societal background included but there seemed to be more about the other children than about her. I was a little disappointed.

I found this a very interesting read. A peak into the ever-private world of the Kennedys in regard to their oldest daughter/sibling. Well written, fascinating study of how disability (and especially intellectual disabilities) are…

The author does her best to make a whole book out of what is, at best, a life that was documented for well less than half of its years. Rosemary's tragedy is both sad and entirely preventable. Her life up until the lobotomy is fascinating…

I did not know the story of Rosemary Kennedy until I cracked this book. What an interesting and tragic piece of Kennedy history. Much of the story must be inference and conjecture, and there are undoubtedly details that no one will ever…

The author attempts to make a whole book out of Rosemary Kennedy's life, and how the family, especially the parents, Joe and Rose Kennedy, dealt with her mental retardation. In my estimation, there was a lot of extra "Kennedy Family"…

Very detailed account of Rosemary's life. I don't think I would have done very well in the highly competitive and 'stiff upper lip' Kennedy family. I appreciated the perspective that anyone with a disability was not "special" then as they…
