Like many others I didn't find this one as interesting as Water for Elephants. It was made a bit more interesting due to the fact that I was vacationing in Portland ME and happened to visit the International Cryptozoology museum!!!

Enjoyed the storyline but waaaaay too much about dysfunctional family and drunken activity for me. The main character changed deeply throughout the story which was heartening. The end was a little too pat. Scottish characters were…

Set in Scotland’s beautifully rugged Highlands, this enjoyable novel successfully blends elements of history, romance, and adventure. The story’s underlying mystery and developing relationships make it comparable to Gruen’s bestselling…

Loved this book. Was a bit hard to get into the book for the first 100 pages. But after that it did not let me down. The last half of the book I read in one sitting due to all the things I needed to know. I highly recommend this book!

I found this book to be a huge disappointment. The historical references were poorly researched and improbable. The story line pathetic and improbable.

This book was enjoyable until the end, when it was then a bit of a let down. I also did not enjoy the violence of the antagonist and passivity of the protagonist. Ok read.

The best word I can think of to describe this book is plodding. At the outset it seems to have good possibilities, but somehow it makes you not care about the characters. It was mildly interesting, but definitely not something I would ever…

I read this novel a few years ago and found the story about a monster very strange but it was a good story otherwise.

Fantastic novel, couldn't put it down, can't wait to read her other books! I liked the strong female protagonist and also the development of the female friendships.

If you love stories that take place during World War II, this is a great read! While it does not focus on soldiers or specifically on any of the happenings of the war, it is a great glimpse into how the war affected everyday people.

I couldn't put this book down! Quick and entertaining read.

This was a book I put off for months reading, worried I wouldn't like it. I adored Water for Elephants, a book I assumed by title alone I wouldn't enjoy. I was worried afterwards that At the Water's Edge wouldn't live up to my expectations…

I was drawn to this unique plot line and the fact that Gruen's previous novel (WFE) was an engrossing tale of an area not commonly discussed. However, this book required a truckload of willing suspension of disbelief. There were too many…

By the author of Water for a Elephants, at the Water's Edge was an enjoyable read. The author tries to capture life in Scotland near the end of a World War II. Once again, Sara Gruen shows, through her heroine Maddie, that a life can…

No better than a Harlequin Romance in a more sophisticated cover.

Gruen wrote a masterful work with "Water for Elephants," so the disappointment of her output since is acute. This is a fairly standard romance novel, and a rather dull one at that. It comes complete with a Scottish laird, a possible ghost,…

Interesting I liked some of the characters, not enough of the loch Ness monster in it. Not bad I actually read and finished it.

Not as good as Water for Elephants, but still very good. One character, in particular, is a gem. :)

Not as good as Water for Elephants but well worth the read. It is a little slow at first but picks up quickly.

I looked forward to reading this highly anticipated new novel by Sara Gruen, author of Water for Elephants. High society hi jinks, the Loch Ness monster, and set historically in World War Two, I imagined it to be a fabulous read. …

This is as good as Water for Elephants. I loved the characters. Gruen did her job for I despised the rich spoiled American boys, Hank and Ellis and I loved the Scottish characters. Gruen is able to leave the reader not knowing whether…
