A wonderful retelling that stays true to its roots. The illustrations are also amazing.

Decent retelling. But it ain’t a graphic novel.

I love the atmospheric ink drawings and the retelling of the story, with Gaiman’s knack for compelling details - even, for example, the way Hansel and Gretel’s names were introduced. I enjoyed the notes at the end of the book too

A fairly straight tellin of the story we all know. Interesting afternotes about the Grimms and cannibal fairytales

Well done. I loved the imagery Mattotti added to the story!

I was looking forward to Neil Gaiman's spin on this classic tale. Unfortunately, it doesn't bring anything new to the story. The illustrations are quite heavy-handed, created in what could have been an ominous and haunting black and white…

Bleak drawings, dark retelling of the old story.

"Be brave, be bold, and keep your wits about you". This is a fabulous retelling of the Brothers Grimm story, and the illustrations are appropriately dark and spooky.

4 Stars - I recommend if you enjoy dark fairy tale retellings. The classic tale in Neil Gaiman's unique writing style. Overall I enjoyed this retelling, it is quite similar to the original but has Neil Gaiman's unique writing voice…

Dark and creepy. Love the artwork. Not a new take on a familiar story, but well executed nonetheless.

Loved it! I found it sparked discussion among the kids about how hungry they've ever been...

We all know that fairy tales are scary but with bright colorful pictures we (or I) often forget. The dark pictures accompanying this version make it known that this is a dark tale!

Mattotti's drawings are haunting and daring. Gaiman's reimagining of the tale pales against the illustration. He doesn't introduce any real new idea to the story. Sure, he doesn't call the old woman a witch, but that doesn't change the…

Gaiman puts his own spin on the fairytale, but is also more faithful to the original. No more evil stepmothers- the biological mother is the one making the cruel choices in this book. There is no more witch- just a terrible, malevolent old…

Nothing new is added to the story by Gaiman here and the stark, black and white artwork add little to the overall tone either.
