This novel is F-U-N-N-Y! “Once I was famous. My face appeared on T-shirts, I appeared on TV, and was called “The Year’s most influential teenager”. I had sixteen offers of marriage and was outlawed by King Snodd. All that in less than a…

We loved this series so much we bought the first book. The story gets better in books 2 and 3. I loved his Thursday Next series (adult murder mystery / living literary characters), so I kinda knew what we were getting into when we started…

In the good old days, magic was indispensable. But now magic is fading: Drain cleaner is cheaper than a spell, and magic carpets are used for pizza delivery. Fifteen-year-old Jennifer Strange runs Kazam, an employment agency for…

Only level-headed 15 year-old Jennifer Strange has the creative problem-solving skills (and patience) to manage the eccentric and temperamental magicians working (and living) at Kazam Mystical Arts Management. Fforde’s trademark wit wraps…

I like novels about dragons and magic and this is exactly what it has. The character is a strong 16 year old girl, Jennifer, who has to take over and manage a business and take on crabby wizards and sorcerers. Magic is dying but something…

I very much enjoyed this book, as it has all of the elements I look for - a strong female lead, adventure/fantasy, and humor!

Jennifer Strange was just your ordinary foundling girl, helping to run a magical business in which wizards specialize in plumbing, speedy organ delivery, and getting cats down from trees. As you can see, magic is no longer held in as high…

I still like this book, quite a lot, but Fforde does seem to be getting formulaic ...

This unique heroine is business-minded and well-spoken. The world is inventive, pun-tastic and amusing. The other characters are diverse and strangely compelling. A very unique read for tweens and teens who like fantasy.

A really fun read, as per usual. The characters are fun and quirky, while the world makes you feel like you know it really well, but not well enough to figure out every thing. Looking forward to the next one.

I think I need to read more Jasper Fforde, who in this book read to me like a cross between J. K. Rowling and Terry Pratchett. Funny, witty, and wise all at the same time; entertainment, silliness, and social critique wrapped in a fun…

In all fariness, I am NOT a teen, but I have read a fair share of teen books over the decades.. Fforde's brilliant literary wit is lacking here even though it is clever and witty at times, just not brilliantly so. The main character is…

I thought it was a very cute book. It was silly and whimsical, creating a world part high-fantasy and part urban. I loved it, but I read a lot of fantasy when I was younger and at 15 feel it was a bit below my reading level. However, I…

Reminds me a lot of the early Harry Potter novels, back when they were exuberant explorations of magic and not constrained so much by the demands of plotting. Lovely interplay between the world of magic, which though fitful and sputtering,…
