Vincente Minnelli’s 1958 Oscar-winner features Leslie Caron, but has no one with the physicality of Gene Kelly—Louis Jourdan co-stars—to add muscle over her mousiness. The production design is absolutely dazzling. A couple of the song…

Frankly, this movie was an utter disappointment. I expected so much from the picture that won 9 Oscars but comparing to 'My Fair Lady' this movie is a bland and boring flop. The story raises your eyebrows and could be simply summarized as…

Can Gigi be enjoyed as anything but a guilty pleasure? The story would be squirmy but for the world-weary cynicism infusing Louis Jourdan's and Maurice Chevalier's roles in particular, as eligible and aging roués respectively of fin de…

I checked out this movie to see and hear Maurice Chevalier sing. He was the best. Story line rather boring. Some of the music great, 9 Oscars. Watch special features about Million Dollar Nickle and a cartoon on disc one. May have to…

Femininity before the rise of Feminism. In Belle Epoque Paris, women found fulfillment in loving and pleasing men. This is one of the most beautiful films ever made, with wonderful costumes and Art Nouveau sets. Its contrivances are…

GREAT 1958 romantic musical comedy set in Paris with fabulous scenery/film work. I've had a great time viewing some top notch musicals for first time recently. Had to look up her birth date, but I was a bit surprised that Leslie Caron…

A beautifully filmed, romantic, funny, and sophisticated musical, with lots of great music. (It does not get much better than Lerner & Loewe!) The screenplay is excellent and the cast is wonderful. Very entertaining and touching.

One of my all-time favorite movies. The DVD also contained the original French movie, with subtitles, on which Gigi was based.

Cute, but best picture? What the merde, as they say in France.

"Gigi" is just a one of a kind movie! First of all, in 1959 it was chosen Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Costume Design, Best Song, and Best Musical Score. It also won 3 Golden Globe Awards that same year. Now nearly…

Another dud, moreover the squandering of a great talent or two. As the over rated Monsieur Jourdan would say "what a bore!" Boy, I sure can pick 'em!

Great songs. But can't quite understand the relationship between a girl and a man.

an absolutely delightful musical, set in the glorious Paris of the Belle Époque, the very early 20th century, with glistening costumes, elaborate sets, and a cast to make inexhaustible magic despite the controversial topic, where Maurice…

Gigi. An amazing movie though not suitable for children younger than 12, has excellent music, excellent acting and excellent scenery! A Five-Star Movie!

A wonderful musical. Reminds me of a more charming version of the unbearably long My Fair Lady but with worse music. The length of this one is much shorter and Paris has never been better.
