Up and Atom: Binary Coding Bracelets Inspired by Margaret Hamilton

3:30 PM – 5:00 PM
Fern Hill Branch

Description

This week we’ll learn how to spell our names with 8-bit ASCII binary code. We’ll also make a visual representation of a binary word by making a bracelet. This program is a fun way to introduce foundational computer science skills.

American computer scientist Margaret Hamilton was one of the first computer software programmers; she created the term software engineer to describe her work. During her career she developed a program that predicted the weather, wrote software that searched for enemy aircraft, and was put in charge of the onboard flight software for Apollo space mission.
