Have A Look at Coding (HAL)

10:00 AM – 11:30 AM

Have a Look at Coding (HAL) is a virtual meeting every Saturday for kids and teens. It is an expanded version of the Digital Media Lab’s popular Kids Code Club, now in its sixth year. It builds upon a student’s innate interest in gaming and computer technologies. Students will focus on core areas of computer programming in a self-paced, supportive environment.

For Kids ages 8-12, HAL offers guided learning and individual exploration using Scratch! and other web-based tools. Children will develop familiarity with general syntax and logical operations. Drawing from a library containing many thousands of projects, kids become aware of the broad scope of coding disciplines, through ideas and projects available online.

For teens, HAL delves deeper into the nuts and bolts of computer programming with a focus on HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Core activities include graphics and web design using Codepen as a means of storing and retrieving student projects and class exercises.

This program is supported by the active involvement and participation of parents, mentors and volunteers. If you’re interested in guiding young minds towards a future in coding please contact

Attendees should download and install Discord ( and for teens, register a Codepen account ( prior to their first meeting. For more information (teens) send an email to or, for kids 9-12,

Registration opens Saturday, August 14th at 10:00 a.m. Because this class offers cumulative studies -  content that builds upon previous weekly activities - Students are strongly encouraged to avoid signing up midway through the program (after October 2, 2021).
